Plants: Dead and Alive
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, photographer Erik Goldstein was always interested in conservation and nature. His fascination with the world around him stems back to childhood, and grew as he began shooting in his early 20’s. Witnessing his city changing and evolving, he became inspired to preserve his surroundings, as well as the world, through photos.
He majored in commercial photography in college and delved into architectural and travel work upon graduating. Slowly branching away from commercial work and focusing primarily on landscapes and eventually conservation work, Erik’s life-long fascination bloomed into his passion as he captured the beauty and frailty of nature.
As the outdoors became the ultimate inspiration that gave him a canvas to work from, he learned that everything has a purpose and balance in nature. When he’s out in the field, from the grandest landscapes to the tiniest insects, he’s in awe of what the planet provides. From its raw beauty and perfect design, nature for Erik is a way for all things and people to connect and create a true understanding with one another.
Mixing conservation with fine art, his body of work reflects a subtle blend of art and activism. Working with editorial clients, organizations and researchers, Erik uses his work to help communicate the issues that affect our environment and wildlife. Through his photos, he aspires to create a dialog about these issues that will lead to an increase of support and awareness. He feels it’s extremely fulfilling to give back to the incredible places and animals he’s photographed in return for what they have always given him: balance and understanding.
Within his photography, he aims to evoke emotions, create a sense

Plants: Dead and Alive was a challenge to approach plants in an abstract, yet understandable manner. I wanted to show the beauty of their full lifecycle.about the photographer
