Marguerite Garth
title
deliquescing to the sea
I call this work my ‘personal landscapes’. Although the land and sea are the wellspring for all of my projects, my fine art practice has more to do with my inner life and struggles than just the landscape. Through creating tension between the superficial loveliness of the scene that I embellish and the hidden detritus of the environmentally challenged landscape, I aim to explain myself. By displaying the landscape as a beautiful yet darkly complex enveloping space, I hope to open the imagery up to metaphoric interpretations linked to mythic expressions of life and death. These photographs were taken at a ghost town near the San Francisco bay.
Garth describes her work as ‘visual poetry’. More of her artwork can be seen at: www.margueritegarth.com
