title
alchemist's dream
I have been making the images as if I were to draw the illustrations in a children's fairly tale.
The base concept is that these images are the fragments of a man's (I've set this man as an alchemist) daydream.
Introduction to this series goes like this:
" Some time in the history, somewhere in the world, there is a man.
He is an alchemist.
Every coming day, he'd sit in his lab, staring at the things that don't mean anything, and start traveling in his daydream..."
I have my own story to each image, but I'd rather leave it to the viewer to make his/her own story as long as I am not asked to tell mine.
With this series, I am trying to cross the boundary between real and imaginary.
To do so, I do not use any manipulation to the images.
I actually create the whole scene on the small table in my atelier, and simply shoot it with a 8x10" camera.
By doing so, I am making a proof such imaginary world could exist in this world if you wish to see.
I hope that looking at my works become a kickstart to the viewer to open up his/her door to the imaginary world.
Studied photography, mixed media and installation at San Francisco Art Institute.
Now, working as a fine art photographer based in Tokyo.
All works are mede with 8x10" camera, specialize in Gelatin Silver and Wet Plate collodion photography.
