entry description
Recently, I experience an authentic tour of the charcoal factory which has been around since 1930s'. The place is so full of characters mainly due to the preserved techniques of producing the charcoal since the start of the factory. All this charcoal is made by mangrove logs and The logs are harvested from nearby mangrove swamps that are not part of the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve. The logs which are approximately five feet long, are stored outside the factory. They are sorted out by their diameter. Those of suitable diameter for making charcoal are stripped of their thick bark; the narrower ones will be used as fuel to provide the heat to make the charcoal. From the first process untill the logs became charcoal is all by manually. Total of 6 filn build in the factory and i took this picture towards the end of the last filn. A charcoal man, 4 years living in charcoal life and you won't believin how tuff is thier life with such smokey, dusty and dirty enviroment. Overall, It was a fruitful and educational visit. Now I know very much more and will be more appreciative of the simple charcoal.back to gallery
