Sable Island Wild Horse Family
My passion for horses, wild horses in particular, led me to Sable Island in 2014. I was one of a fortunate few allowed and able to visit this ecologically significant crescent shaped strip of sand located 180 miles off the coast of Nova Scotia last year. It has been my dream to visit for many years and to witness these magnificent horses for myself, living truly free and wild. The horses are calm and quite tame. There are no natural predators for the horses. They have lived and died virtually without any human intervention for centuries. My hope is that they remain free for centuries to come.
My work has received international photo and art awards, including the Siena International Photo Awards, Moscow International Photo Awards, PX3 Paris International Photo Awards, Tokyo International Photo Awards. I have been awarded #1 Black & White Photographer in the United States 2021 and #3 Black & White Photographer 2021 in the World by One Eyeland. One Eyeland B&W Awards.

entry description
Sable Island is a place unlike any other. Sable Island's horses are also unique. They are probably the hardiest breed of wild horse anywhere on the planet. Their population on the Island varies somewhere between 350 and 500 at any given time. Due to the harsh conditions, wind, snow, rain, limited natural food supply (they eat only the native marram grass that grows in the sand) and no shelter provided, these horses form close herd and family bonds that keep them alive. My passion for horses, wild horses in particular, led me to Sable Island in 2014.
