The Reflecting Pool
In recent years, my image making has changed dramatically. I am no longer looking to record that which I see, but to interpret it, to paint an impression that over time brings me a little closer to my own relationship with the land and with nature’s dynamic.
Many of my images reveal the beauty and diversity of water, and its ever changing interaction with light, land and season. Although created in camera, they are often mistaken for paintings. These personal interpretations have, for me, a richness missing from documentary views. They allow me to combine an early love of drawing and painting with a long-standing passion for photographing the landscape.
Michela interviews other photographers for and contributes the occasional article to On Landscape magazine.

entry description
Fault lines and fissures have again ensnared me. I went for the trees but found a seasonal pool, already visibly shrinking in extent. I’m lost within a deepening world of light and shade, line and colour. New worlds within await, the only pre-condition for entry a little imagination. Birch trees, a wood, inverted. Reinverted and reinvented. The bright sun darkens its surrounding halo of water, each mote of floating dust a star around a moon. Dark lines on blue cloth, layered stems and branches dissolve into watery paint, ever softening. Look long and deep enough and your gaze will be returned. What we see is a reflection of who we are.In recent years, my image making has changed dramatically. about the photographer
Michela Griffith’s images combine an early love of drawing and painting with a long-standing passion for photographing the landscape. Much of her recent work celebrates the ephemeral beauty of water and the resultant portfolio has led to membership of the professional artists’ group, Peak District Artisans, and a number of solo exhibitions. This ‘Liquid Light’ has transformed her image making and also inspires her to experiment with movement in and through the landscape.Michela interviews other photographers for and contributes the occasional article to On Landscape magazine.
