entry description
I automatically work in abstract - extracting elements and reorganising them into different plains and surfaces. The idea of re-creation and metamorphosis, especially in nature, is what draws me to interpreting and enhancing this in the two dimensional. I’m attracted to the shapes, lines and fabric of natural plant forms, which I capture in a digital photograph. I then continue the idea of alteration and change using photo-editing software, allowing the features, forms and tones to evolve into new patterns, rhythms and textures - thereby releasing a previously undiscovered potential which would have otherwise remained dormant. Setting Scenes is an extract from a continuous body of work which originates from my immediate surroundings. I have taken multiple shots from a location - in this instance The Water of Leith - and have created an overall impression of the scene that surrounded me at the time.about the photographer
Originally from Aberdeen, I moved to Edinburgh after studying Surface Decoration at Gray’s School of Art. I have been working with digital photography for some years now and find the infinite possibilities of this medium versatile and inspiring. The allure of pattern is strong in my work and the feeling of how this helps to understand, seek order and clarify.back to gallery
