entry description
This image was taken at Monument Valley and captures the first rays of sunrise backlighting the monuments and gently dancing across the landscape. The lighting emphasizes the majesty of the vastness of this place. The empty road leading through the image creates a sense of wanderlust for unknown destinations.about the photographer
Richard Vandegriend is a self-taught landscape and fine-art photographer living in Vancouver, Canada. Photographing a scene connects the photographer to the location and immerses him in the experience of the place. Believing that composition and timing are critical to a great image, compositional elements are not altered in post-processing. Instead care and patience are exercised to ensure the image was captured perfectly in camera. The excitement of landscape photography comes from the surprise at nature's unexpected conditions and adapting the frame to those conditions. As landscape photography is so dependent on lighting and weather conditions, more often than not, great images are discovered rather than planned. One must give themselves the time and opportunity to discover these images.back to gallery
