entry description
In December 2016 I traveled to Italy to participate in an international short film festival. Fortunately, my film got an award, so I decided to extend my trip and stay for a few more days traveling around Italy and Spain. It was my first time in Europe so I walked a lot and visited different places. One of the things that caught my eye was the way people were on their cell phones all the time, everywhere, taking pictures, texting, watching something, almost unconsciously. I had been watching this phenomenon growing during the last years. In fact, my film is just about it. You could easily realize this has gone too far when you see that the most sold item among street vendors in every city is the selfie stick. I noticed that the act of taking pictures, chatting, or just being online, seemed sometimes more important and relevant than any other thing. Our perception of life has changed. Somehow, it has been distorted and it seems we need to read or see something on our phones so that it becomes real. Modern life is a mix of voyeurism and exhibitionism where people constantly disseminate their inner and outer being. I saw many people so abstracted with their phones that it made me think where will this thing lead us to? How will this present be seen as the past in the future? I had my own cell phone, too and as another obsessive being, I wanted to capture this reality.about the photographer
