entry description
Shiraz, Iran - June 20, 2019. A young shepherd stands watch in a field while his flock grazes in the background. This photo was taken just hours after a US drone was downed over the Strait of Hormuz. That day it seemed more than likely that the Middle East would be plunged into yet another conflict. The ground on which the boy stands is less than 15km from Naqsh-e Rostan, the necropolis where Xerxes is buried, and closer still to the land on which Cyrus the Great began his revolt against Median rule. Cyrus’ victory resulted in the first Persian empire, and since then Iran has remained a significant geopolitical and cultural force. Giants battle, and empires rise and fall, but for people like this little boy life must go on.about the photographer
I'm an Iranian American photographer whose current motivation is to understand both my cultural heritage, and the ways in which Iran and the people that live there are surviving in these trying times.back to gallery
