Fashion Tradition
This series depicts an allegory of how tradition and modernity can go hand in hand, just having to find the exact balance between them.
The images emerge in the depths of an old "caserio", this type of structures can be found throughout the Basque territory and are the most emblematic images of our land, a land full of mystery.
A "caserio" is a country house with working ground. They are made of stone with a gabled roof, and represent the essence of the Basque culture, in which the matriarchy stands out .
Women direct the domestic tasks, the religious cult, and thus presides over sacred acts and ceremonies such as burial, elevating her dignity, prestige and, above all, her social and political situation.
Because of this, our protagonist is a Basque woman, who carries on with the ancient traditions, but also lives with modernity and fashion.
That is why artistic elements are fused with traditional ones. Current garments mixed with autochthonous garments from classic Basque clothing. These clothes are traditional not only because of use, but because the materials used to craft them are made in the country. The costume consists in a skirt, gathered at the waist, an apron, a shirt adorned with folds and a wool shawl to fight the cold weather.
Through this metaphorical journey, all these concepts are fused in order to interconnect identities and ideas.
The last image is the total closure, the model turns her back to the camera, this symbolizes the ability to refuse the change to modern life and the need to continue loving her tradition and her culture.
