IDEAL BEAUTY
Within advertising women are always portrayed as young, reinforcing the idea that as you age you are less desired. Sexualization of these young women places adolescent girls in the awkward place of needing to be sexy in order to please. Young people are at risk to see fashion imagery as the framework of self-love. At the same time older women feel irrelevant for the same reason. Ethnic diversity is also an issue within the world of fashion.
In my project I want to represent women of different shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and ages, posing them in nonsexual ways and placing them in an environment that anyone can relate to. I want to show a variety of clothing whether it is elegant or casual but still keeping it fashion oriented. In order to reinforce the importance of these individuals, my camera angle looks up to the models. This is reinforced by the use of a 20mm lens, showing women as ‘larger than life’.
I am an all inclusive photographer. Age, size, ethnicity, and gender does not matter. My goal is to present man and woman as equal in existence. As this subject matter is close to my heart I take it very seriously. In everything that I do, I take into consideration the portrayal of human beings as individuals for any type of work.

entry description
My photo series focuses on women defying the objectivity and sexism that most fashion imagery represents. My goal is to create a new type of imagery by showing real women. Fashion images are photoshopped until women are unrecognizable, taking away and adding to the body in order to create an “ideal”. Women are typically seen as submissive, vulnerable, sexual creatures, versus men who are almost always seen as strong, independent beings. Not only is body type a struggle with the representation of women but so is age, sexualization and ethnic diversity.Within advertising women are always portrayed as young, reinforcing the idea that as you age you are less desired. about the photographer
Photography is my way of expressing how I see the world. It allows me to communicate with the outside world and it documents how we view ourselves and others. It is a habit in society to photoshop images to unidentifiable versions reinforcing the highest standards of beauty that is consistently forced into our lives. As this subject matter has definitely opened my eyes to the tragic world of fashion it has also sparked inspiration to be the change.I am an all inclusive photographer.
