entry description
As an artist, my work does not document the world, I manipulate the environment around me to create a sensorial experience for the viewer. Redefinition - to change or alter the definition of something. Through “REDefinition”, I attempt to challenge the viewers’ world view, while giving them an insight into mine. Society likes to define everything. Our world is split by society on a scale of good or bad, black or white, left or right, where in reality things blend or burn together. People become so attached to the definition society gives that they cannot always see beyond that. By challenging these restrictions, one brings new meaning to something that may have a negative connotation. What others view as chaotic and destructive, others view as safe and warm. Where some might see sadness or anger in abstraction, others see calmness and relief in the palette. “REDedefinition” provides an opportunity for the viewer to challenge their societal impressions and understanding of an image.Work was shot with a Holga 120N on redscale and black and white film.
