entry description
On 24 and 25 May of each year , at Saintes Maries de la Mer , in the Camargue ( southern France ) , is celebrated Saint Sara , the patron of all Gypsies and Travellers in the world ... party flashy clothes , gypsy music , and white horses much more. They gather in this small town to celebrate together their patron saint , alternating moments of deep belief and faith in moments of true joy and celebration with singing and dancing. The opportunity to meet and learn more about the "People of the Wind" is participating in the " Pélegrinage des Saintes " during the party for the Black Sara , patron saint of the gypsies. The statue, decked out with cloaks and silk dresses , is carried on shoulders by gypsies through the streets of the city down to the beach , where it is immersed three times into the sea, to get the blessing , followed by the gypsies and accompanied by cries of " Vive les Saintes Maries "as opposed to the cry of " Vive la Sainte Sarah . " Fulfilled it by the religious space in the festivities , feeling a strong sense of belonging that summons the nomads from all corners of Europe and beyond. It continues throughout the night , involving all singing and dancing accompanied by guitars and violins that are the background to this holiday season . The photos posted are part of a larger project , the ones I have chosen are based upon the children , hence the title " sons of the wind ." They caught my attention for their intensity , small already large , independent way of life , a sign of their nomadic culture that leads them to grow faster.back to gallery
