They_01
My first portrait series using real couples to explore gender politics, inspired by the American Gothic Painter Grant Wood's painting "American Gothic" and Adlers theory of the "other".
The skull is a reference to both genders potential vanity to blame and fear the "other". In this mini series of four photos, the skull is in particular a reference to mens fear of their own weaknesses and reminders of their own mortality that could become harder to ignore in the "unknown" that is a society where traditional gender roles have dissolved.
I decided to start this series, to explore the topic of gender roles and politics to come to terms with and deepen my own understanding of gender politics. I decided to begin to educate my self further after arriving in Paris in 2012 and experiencing a different culture with differently defined gender roles to what i had been given growing up in a predominately western angle saxon culture in Australia.
