entry description
In my series, HWY 395, I explore traces of the American Dream along a highway where California gold mines were once prevalent. This area of the world, no longer a major destination for idealists and dreamers, seems forgotten and empty. I am attempting to bring out these multiple histories in the direct representation of old and new while also evoking questions about these changes in my viewers’ minds.about the photographer
Sinziana Velicescu is a 24-year old Los Angeles based photographer and filmmaker. She graduated from University of Southern California with a BA in Literature and Film in 2012. Her photography explores human intervention with nature in landscapes that have undergone political, social, or environmental change. Topics of interest throughout her work include traces of the American Dream in the West as well as the aftermath of communism in countries such as Romania and the Czech Republic. By combining carefully framed photography and "of the moment" snapshots, she produces a clean, uncluttered, and perhaps abstracted perception of reality.back to gallery
