Anatomy Lesson - homage to Rembrandt
He studied classical music, arts and photography – requisitioned the family bathroom to serve as darkroom. Already in his teens he was winning awards and exhibiting works, while simultaneously continuing his education and giving concerts. With university studies completed, he further pursued his professional career in the arts.
After arriving in Canada from Europe, he expanded his professional interests to include multimedia, published books, and collaborated on production of animated 3D holograms. But photography still remain his strongest passion.
Over the years Derek won photography awards and exhibited my works in Europe and Canada, built a vast portfolio including Caribbean architecture and landscape images, and published award-winning books - working all the time on art photography, which remains his personal fascination.
Derek is available for lectures and workshops on technical aspects of photography (HDR/fusion/photo editing), travel photography, studio lighting, and on photography publishing – to camera clubs and other interested parties, also available as a juror for photo Salons and competitions (sat in several jury sessions, including famous Al Thani Award for Photography organized in Qatar).

entry description
A light-hearted image inspired by a famous Rembrandt painting. A little detail in photo changes the whole context. Photo done with fellow Canadian photographers and artists as models (including myself). It comes from my portfolio named "Painterly" which pays tribute to several old masters of canvas. One of my favourites from this series, this image received Gold Medal at London Int. Salon of Photography 2013, Gold Medal at Photo Art Championship 2013 in Austria, FIAP Gold Medal in Belgium ISO 2013, several other medals and awards.about the photographer
son of a musician – as a small child loved spending hours under his dad’s grand piano, listening as he practiced for his upcoming concerts. This powerful experience of real “surround sound” determined his life choice – the arts!He studied classical music, arts and photography – requisitioned the family bathroom to serve as darkroom. Already in his teens he was winning awards and exhibiting works, while simultaneously continuing his education and giving concerts. With university studies completed, he further pursued his professional career in the arts.
