BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL
It was my 55th safari to Tadoba. Spot was Cosai canal road. We all were watching 1st tiger (name not known) on east side of road & suddenly 2nd tiger (named Leopard Face) came from west side & went besides our open 4 wheeler. Leopard face crossed the road, roared & challenged the 1st male which was bigger. Both started roaring & challenging each other. We thought it may not lead to a fight. Suddenly, both stood on hind legs almost straight & fight started. I could see blood coming...both hold their necks (throat) in each other’s jaws. It was a death lock.
This fight was a outcome of possible three reasons. First there was mating going on in Leopard face & tigress P2 from Pandharpawni area. Tigress would have marked her sent & 1st Tiger would have been attracted. Secondly there was a kill in that area. The area belongs to Leopard face. Thirdly it might be a territorial fight. Many tigers are killed in India every year because of fights.
