Ingwe: The Essence of a leopard
seen or handled in a color image before...Optimised in order to give screen and printed version a feeling
of mystique and foreboding while at the same time revealing details in the back, body and tail to the
curious viewer from varying distances and different spot light intensities as well as using computer
screen luminance. Extreme care and many iterations of black balancing to achieve this subtle effect in
the final output. Also purposely cropped to raise the leopard above centre giving more sense of power
and foreboding and allowing more foreground black compared to above the leopard gives a sense of him coming out of the shadows.
Emerging out of the shadows into the light, the wavy form of the body and tail as he twists harmoniously
complements the wave of light as it curves synchronously along the ground before fading to black.
I feel there is a 3D quality to this image despite the lack of background and foreground detail.
This image combines sports and wildlife techniques to work. Observing behaviour on 3 separate trips over 3 months built up to the capture and creation of this image. I decided that the essence of a leopard photo can only be captured at night immediately presenting a technical challenge. So refinement of night settings to yield best compromise between risk vs reward and retain high output quality for fine art print purposes was key in the settings used for this image and a realisation that the shot had to be captured with the leopard only just starting to move otherwise it would not be sharp. Timing and anticipation worked out perfectly in the end.
Also selling fine art photographic prints from my website www.truetolifephotography.com and stock sales with several agencies
My global reach and relative ease of travel allows me to photograph all over the world. Mostly self taught however I have learned from key photographic professionals along the way in all areas of photography that interest me.
