entry description
It was our afternoon drive, and we quickly spotted a male leopard walking along the dry riverbed and followed him for roughly an hour as he patrolled his territory. Out of no where, she came walking down a nearby embankment, completely unaware of his presence. Moments later he gave chase, running her up a nearby tree. Our driver, Matt, was quick on the chase and got us close to her within moments. We moved the car a few times trying to find the perfect spot, and as she settled down, she came to rest between two separate branches. We moved the car one more time, and I made sure I had the frame just the way I wanted it. I wanted both branches to frame her, keeping the focus squarely on her eyes. She had such a soft, yet intense look. She kept her eyes square on the male that was still pacing about behind me. With her eyes fixed on him, I only had to wait until he reached the perfect position to give the illusion of eye contact. She had such soft look on her face, contemplative and soulful. To me, it became similar to taking a street portrait, waiting for the moment that a strangers guard relaxes, and you can see a glimpse into their soul. The photo was taking North of Kruger National Park in South Africa on a private reserve.
