about the photographer
Amy Sacka is a street photographer and freelance photojournalist whose work explores the evolving cityscape and culture of Detroit. She moved to Detroit in 2012 to do a 500-day photo essay, wherein she published a photo a day on the people, places and personalities she encountered daily as a city resident. She is currently working on a second 500-photo essay that explores how changes in the city are affecting identity, memory and the preservation of heritage and community in Detroit. Amy’s work was recently featured in National Geographic’s book, “Getting Your Shot: Stunning Photos and Endless Inspiration from the Pros” and has twice been selected as photo of the day at National Geographic online. Her work has also been published by National Geographic Traveler, Detroit News, The Guardian, Huffington Post Detroit, and profiled on PBS World News Hour and National Geographic Long Lens. She has exhibited in the Scarab Club, the 555 Gallery, Baltimore Gallery, as well at Lillstreet Gallery in Chicago and at the Brighton Photo Biennial, the UK’s largest curated photo festival.back to gallery
