entry description
These photos depict the process. They show the inner workings of an artist’s mind. Their space. Their sanctuary. Is it trash? Is it a sacred space in which every object was carefully placed? Who are you to decide. Who are you to judge that. Maybe there’s a reason behind it. Maybe it’s a cycle and you’re seeing it at the end of a cycle in which everything goes to shit before it’s put right again. Maybe it doesn’t get put right again. Maybe it doesn’t matter if it gets put right again becasue it’s perfect the way it is. It’s your process. It’s his process. It’s her process. Of healing, of self discovery. The Japanese have this teaching, or aesthetic world view if you will, called wabi sabi. It is the acceptance of imperfections. Seeing the beauty in the rust. Seeing beauty in all that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence: impermanence, suffering, and emptiness or absense of self nature. This collection of work shows just that: Imperfections, the places that we go to in times of suffering and the process of refiling that emptiness of self nature and finding ourselves once again. It’s a process.about the photographer
