entry description
Ever since the remodeling of the Jersey City Waterfront, there remains almost no spot along the walkway that has not been tread upon by photographers aiming their lenses towards the lower Manhattan skyline. I've always been more of a get-out-and-explore kind of guy, so I didn't think much of it when I figured out where this old twisted pier was based on its relation to the Freedom Tower as I saw it in another photograph. People who have been there will tell you that it is hidden, that there is no immediate access to it, that you basically have to trespass to get there...all of which is more or less true. However, it's only hidden in that it happens to be one of the very few locations that can not be seen from any other point along the waterfront. My initial response to the location was that the twisted pier reminded me of an old piano; it's keys twisting into the air as the music poured out of it. Initially, I saw the image in black and white, and exposed it accordingly with that in mind. However, on this morning, the streaking clouds and lack of sun preserved a wonderful dark blue hue across the composition. I processed the image both ways, and in the end, the color most accurately reflected my sentiments about the morning concierto.about the photographer
