The search for a personal style resulted in a formal coherence built on two points of reference: black & white and square format. Other recurrent elements are minimalist compositions, long exposures and strong contrasts. He pays great attention to this last aspect during the post production, limitated to the “camera lucida”.
The exploration process of Karim Carella moves along precise patterns. Place exploration: the images are taken somewhere in the world, both in the countryside, on mountain tops and along beaches. The color contrast and the hypnotism of the prospective confer to the scene an idea of dualism between intensity and essence. The effect created by the pavement leading towards a far point of view and the visual hardness of the balustrade create a vision of the place which is alternative to the real image, which is almost intangible and not real. This sort of dialogue between concrete and abstract is highlighted by the essential elements of the picture: the alternation between black and white, the hard play of light and the contrasts.about the photographer
Karim Carella is a self-thought italian lanscape photographer.
