After getting my first camera when I was 11, my enthusiasm for photography led to my first 35 mm SLR, a Nikkormat FTN, when I was 16. High school spent at the illustrious Brooklyn Tech confirmed my love for design, and I started at RIT on a design degree. One of my design courses was with the famous Bea Nettles, whose specialty was photography in mixed media. I saw that I could combine design and photography and switched my degree to focus on photography. I went on to get my BFA in Photography as a Fine Art from RIT in 1974. I continue to pursue the beauty of black and white and photographic design, as I did in college.
My career in visual effects for film, television, and commercials began in 1977 when I became Director of Photography on a stop-motion animation film called “I Go Pogo”. The film was a collaboration of some of the finest creative minds and animators of the day and led to

As a student (BFA in Photographic Illustration) at Rochester Institute of Technology, I had access to the archive at Eastman House. Early ‘exposure’ to the legendary Edward Steichen and Minor White prints left a strong impression on me of the importance of composition, light, shadow and texture. In recent years I have rediscovered a passion for looking at objects as a study of light, space, texture, and design – either working with the unique forms of classic cars, or the arresting design of architecture and cityscapes, or the barren reaches of the Salton Sea.After getting my first camera when I was 11, my enthusiasm for photography led to my first 35 mm SLR, a Nikkormat FTN, when I was 16.
