entry description
The Dolomites offer a spectacular landscape in both summer and winter. The mountains are limestone and rise sheer above the surrounding valleys and meadows. These particular photos were taken over several years, during winter trips to the area. In winter the area is popular for skiing, which makes getting around straight forward. The weather also lends itself to dramatic photography, as the light and cloud lead the eye to wonderful compositions. These photos are taken mainly around The Val Gardena, one of the main valleys in the region, and one of the loveliest parts of the area.about the photographer
I am based in the North West of England near Manchester and have been a keen photographer for many years. I am lucky to live close to a beautiful variety of scenery, in close proximity to four national parks, all with stunning scenery and all of them having their own unique ambience. I still love using film for a lot of my work as I feel the colour saturation can't be beaten, plus film tends to make you look at a subject with a different perspective to digital capture. I love being in the outdoors whenever I can. The Derbyshire Peak District in on my doorstep and has a rich variety of scenery, contrasted by moorland overlying gritstone rock strata, in the north of the region; with the limestone dales of the southern area of the region. My favourite area however is the Lake District of Cumbria an area I have truly come to love. Other places I love to visit are the Highlands of Scotland and The Italian Dolomites, both of which are stunning and inspiring.back to gallery
