ao tūroa
They are all self- Portraits of myself taken on a tripod.
These pictures represent the shape of a body in the purest nature , the human turns back to his natural instincts melting with the environment in a peaceful and harmonious way, the images are steady but looking at them you can still imagine to hear the noise of the wind and the water and smell the fresh air and perfumes of the plants and musks.
I chose to hide always the head for two reasons: first it gives to the silhouette a less human shape and make it looks more an animal and second because conceptually the idea of not having a " human head " will make us come back to our instincts and live our lives respecting nature like all the other animals do and be part of it in a really beautiful and harmonic way.
New Zealand has such a strong and amazing energy and once I saw those places I felt I had to embrace that feeling and freeze it in a picture and this is why I chose to call this series "Ao tūroa" which in Maori means light of day, world, Earth, nature, enduring world, natural world.
There's nothing erotic about these images but it's just an homage to our Mother Earth and her beauty and they are supposed to show to the viewer which one our true essence should be.
