entry description
Much has been written about the crime-infested "no-go" zones that are Brazil’s favelas. But is there nothing more to the lives of their residents? I wanted to know and during my stay in several favela communities in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in August this year, I discovered individual stories that were more nuanced and more hopeful than widely believed. While poverty forces them to live in these notorious districts, there are those who wisely dodge around the daily dangers and, with courage and the power of dreams, manage to triumph over their hardships.about the photographer
