Five Seconds of Sunflowers
By moving the camera whilst shooting I’m effectively painting with light and the scene in front of the camera becomes the most wonderful brush. Although abstract I always try and maintain a resonance with the organic nature of the subject even if it is not obvious what the subject was and hence try to offer an insight into the excitement and energy I feel when I am out with my camera.

entry description
This image of sunflowers was taken in July 2018 in The Loire Valley, France. This area is covered with amazing vibrant fields of vivid yellow flowers at this time of the year. I wanted to create a shot that celebrated this mind blowing festival of colour. I introduced a rotating zooming motion to this single exposure shot during it's 5 second duration. I love the way it expands the texture of the petals in the left side and then sweeps round into the middle where the flower is almost untouched by the movement. There's a real sense of movement and being drawn in by this technique which reflected my total absorption in the process of conceptualising and refining this shot. These three flowers formed the focus of the image which really worked well when I cropped it to a square.about the photographer
My photography explores the world that we know, of trees and landscapes, a world that is regarded as static and adds time and motion into the mix. These additions unlock a pallete of textures, colours and patterns that highlight aspects of our amazing environment that can often be overlooked.By moving the camera whilst shooting I’m effectively painting with light and the scene in front of the camera becomes the most wonderful brush.
