entry description
The series "Public Space" focuses on places that are mostly ignored because of their functionality or ugliness, but that are used by hundreds of people everyday. Parking lots, train stations, exterior walls of a museum, ... I try to capture their essence.about the photographer
Evelien Vanderstraeten (°1988, Halle, Belgium) studies photography at the Academy for Visual Arts in Anderlecht, Brussels. Her work focuses primarily on public space that surrounds us and its emptiness. Every image is carefully constructed, details often become key elements. Minimalism sets the tone. In many of her images, a human presence might linger somewhere in the background, but is not shown explicitly. While architectural photography is her main focus, the same minimalist and realistic approach can be found in her landscape, travel and still life photography.
