entry description
The camera permits me to tap into the extraordinary interplay between the rock formations of Cape Ann, MA and the seas of the North Atlantic that continually pound them. No one day ever resembles another, yet the forces, which create each of them, are unchanging. The wind and the tide perpetually sculpt the sand, and does the light on the granite outcrops that have remained virtually unchanged since they first cooled - under a volcanic micro continent known as Avalonia – almost half a billion years ago. The use of a diptych format allows for a deeper exploration of the complexity of these forces because they reveal nuances of time, space and typology that are simply not accessible within a single frame. And so I’ve called this series Avalonia, because through these paired images I’m able to glimpse an eternity before the consciousness of time.about the photographer
