Open Eyes
The mission took place in the Libyan SAR area where just after midnight on August 2, about 55 miles from the coast, it rescue a raft with 87 people aboard of which 84 Sudanese (many from Darfour), a Syrian, a Gambian and an Egyptian . The call to the Open Arms bridge came directly from the Libyan coast guard and, in less than two hours, two rescue vehicles were on site.
A few migrants mistook the ngo boats for the Libyan coast guard and decided to throw themselves into the water, some hoping to die, others to escape in some way. Many of them were in fact on their second or third trip to the sea, and had previously been brought back to the mainland by the Libyans to be put in prison. The Syrian especially, even after his rescue, continued to say: "No Syria, no Syria ... Syria pa pa pa" mimicking the noise of a rifle.
He has made several social reportages using both video and photos.
He has made 3 short fiction films set in the suburbs of Rome where he was born and grew up: "Bar (n) Out duepuntoniente", "Bia" and "Esubero"
He has published 3 books of photographs and stories: "Bar(n)Out", which has as its protagonist the suburbs of Rome, "Befilmaker a Gaza" on its experience in the Gaza Strip and "(R)Esistenze" that contains all its photo reportage made in 9 different countries.
He has made numerous music videos with Italian and Palestinian singer/songwriters and has published two books of short stories and photography, "Bar(n)Out" published by New Culture, "Be Filmmaker in Gaza" published by "Ass. Nat. Filmmaker " and (R)Esistenze by Crowdbooks.
He also works as an occasional lecturer with the ‘Audio-visual Journalism Tribune’ of the faculty of Communication Sciences at La Sapienza University and the Palestinian Al-Aqsa and Deir El-Balah, both located in the Gaza Strip.
