entry description
I first conceived of this series when I stumbled across an unfinished portrait painted on linen, circa 1812. The solitary seated figure was a young man in a fine black suit. There was no background, nothing to distract the viewer from the subject. It was is if he were floating, not in space, but in time—another time. What drew me to the image most was the unfinished quality of it. To me it said, these are works in progress, both the piece and the man portrayed within it.about the photographer
Born and raised in Los Angeles, David Glen Larson's love affair with photography began when he received a Kodak Ektralite camera for his 10th birthday. He went on to study directing and screenwriting at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, and afterward had some success writing for film and television, becoming an active member of the Writer's Guild of America. But the power of the still image and the challenge of telling stories through the language of light ultimately drew David's heart away from Hollywood, and so he returned his focus to portraiture and fine art photography full time.back to gallery
