My photography focuses predominantly on culture and landscapes; images reflecting a spatial and temporal journey through life, while striving to reflect the need to live in a more sustainable world.
By seeking the moment and light in various contexts, we can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.
I lead photo tours locally in Ireland, but also in Scotland, Iceland, Ethiopia, Namibia, Chad, South Sudan, Eritrea, India and beyond. With a focus on small groups, the aim is to provide culturally sensitive immersion, photographic guidance and the opportunity for the photographic travel experience of a lifetime.
My approach is based on an alternative vision of tomorrow – capturing unforgettable moments through photography that empower us to reflect upon the world around us, and truly be the change that we want to see in that world.

The Omo valley of Ethiopia is home to approximately forty tribes, living in climatic, social and political margins. I aspire to capture these people as they are, in a state of transition as outside influences increasingly make an impact on their indigenous culture. Photography here is a delicate balance and I try to capture candid moments as well as community spirit and portraits. Interpersonal skills can make the moment count. And in that moment I want to capture light, colour, emotion, insight, character and spirit. I try to shoot in the golden hours or at least where there is shade from the intense African sun. In the right light, at the right time the ordinary becomes extraordinary and that is something to strive for in the context of encapsulating tribal traits.about the photographer
I am an international travel photographer and photo tour leader, based in Donegal, Ireland. Born in Derry, I went on to teach geography at international schools in Singapore, Togo, Italy, Ethiopia and Brazil – always travelling extensively with my camera. This naturally brought two of my life’s passions together as a geographer-photographer.
