It was constructed in 1939-1941 during the early years of World War II and was a remarkable construction achievement in the face of wartime limitations on the availability of labour and building materials. At the time it was one of the largest construction projects in Melbourne.
Steve has had a long fascination with architecture and cityscapes, so he naturally gravitated to photographing architectural subjects which has become his passion. He also has an interest in waterscapes and is starting to delve into streetscapes and street photography.
He works primarily in black and white, frequently using long exposure techniques to conceive his vision. He enjoys creating moody minimalist images that emphasise the form, structure and features of architecture and cityscapes. Recently he has become more experimental using different techniques in Photoshop to envision an altered reality.
