entry description
Being the last masterpiece of the great architect Eero Saarinen, TWA Flight Center of JFK International Airport not only serves as a terminal for travelers, but it was also the witness of the rise and fall of aerial industry. The terminal was designed during both Trans World Airline and Eero Saarinen's prime time, but the later one did not live long enough to see it's completion. The terminal served its purpose for 40 years and was left abandoned after the airline's bankruptcy. But thanks to the National Register of Historic Places, it was kept safely as its original appearance. The structure is so complex to conceive and construct even with modern technique and digital tools. The bodacious yet elegant curve lines of TWA Flight Center precisely captured the concept of flight and aerial dynamics while providing perfectly functioning spaces. The flow of curvatures guides people to walk through the building with fluent movement and accelerate the circulation. The dynamic and ever-changing spacial experience makes it one of the most unique architectures in history.back to gallery
