entry description
Adalaj Stepwell built in 1499 is located at adalaj near Ahmedabad India. This five-storey stepwell was not just a cultural and utilitarian space, but also a spiritual refuge. I was mesmerised by the monumental scale & the intricate details done here. But more fascinating here was the symmetry of the structure carried through all the floors. There is an opening in the ceilings above the landing which allows the light and air to enter the octagonal well. However, direct sunlight does not touch the flight of steps or landings except for a brief period at noon. The stepwell is a spectacular example of Indo-Islamic architecture and design.about the photographer
I am an architect & photographer based in Pune/India. I have a keen eye for aesthetics, experience of understanding light & proportions. Architectural legacy of India & its monumental scale fascinates me. I am trying to document heritage sites here with different perspectives.back to gallery
