entry description
I was born in Leipzig, East Germany. All my childhood I spent on the streets of this city in between this old art deco buildings, which were still in destroyed condition after World War II and only partly restored. I still remember the single grocery stores, while shopping with my mother. For each product we need to go to different shops. The milk shop, the meat shop, the fish shop, the bakery and so on. After the fall of the wall, this small shops were gone and replaced through larger retail stores. Even today, when the whole city and building are fully renovated and got a new colorful life, there are still a lot of these old buildings, which got surface of history. For me these facades projects several layers of history and culture and getting some kind of new composition the cities environment.about the photographer
Cinematic, dream-like shots. German photographer Frank Herfort has spent over a decade photographing the insides of various public spaces throughout Russia and Eastern Europe—spaces that, incidentally, are lacking a public. An architectural photographer by trade, Herfort’s personal work pays homage to the old-fashioned, Stainlist decor that still consumes many Russian interiors. Yet Herfort’s work brings a modern twist, seemingly imported from the outside, that eradicates markers of time or context and persuades the viewer to create their own narrative.back to gallery
