On your face
This song actually describes my working process, more or less. In my artworks I always try to visualize an emotion of the model that I work with.
The photo shoot for this artwork got a funny twist when it turned out that the model and I are both huge fans of locking. The funkiest streetdance style that has greatly influenced my life so far.
I used to be a professional dancer and dance teacher. I often used this song from Earth, Wind & Fire for my warming up, back in the days when I used to dance. Quite funny that after all those years it has now been given a completely different interpretation.
I made this artwork in May of this year.
I'm an autodidact, self-taught, and a former professional dancer. My love for art was born 9 years ago out of necessity. After I had to learn how to deal with loss. And I could not process these losses through my dance. Illustration offered the necessary relief. And in the last 3 years I started making artworks with photo's.
My works are a combination of photo's and digital painting/ drawing. And consist of (self-)reflections. An investigation into how we look at ourselves. At a time when it seems that the surface counts more than what we really have to offer. Even more due to social media. I also use my art to positively stimulate the self-image of women and men.
I photograph the models myself (unless stated different).
