Tulips in Quarantine
JJ first picked up a camera as a tween after finding a camera in her parent's closet and went on to become a cum laude graduate of Ithaca College where she studied cinema and photography with a minor in marketing. JJ is effervescent, enthusiastic and is always looking through her viewfinder finding the next story at home and all over the world. When not capturing moments or traveling JJ can be found with friends or tending to her 30+ plant children in her NYC apartment.
JJ began her dead flower series several years ago as she collected leftovers from her office mate who is a florist. This series is a little different, as she collected these spring tulips while roaming the empty city streets of NYC during the 2020 Conora Virus quarantine. Much like the atmosphere, she's been surrounded by in this current situation, there is death and hardship all around, yet we are still able to find the beauty in what has appeared to died, yet will always live beautifully in our minds.

entry description
JJ began her dead flower series several years ago as she collected leftovers from her office mate who is a florist. She loved the way they died. But, not in a morbid sense, she loved the way the petals fell and then dried in place, how the color would darken and the texture would become more pronounced. Each one had its own character and froze in a dance-like shape. Almost more beautiful than it was in life. This series is a little different, as she collected these spring tulips while roaming the empty city streets of NYC during the 2020 Corona Virus quarantine. Much like the atmosphere that she has been surrounded by in this pandemic, there is death and hardship all around, yet we are still able to find the beauty in what has appeared to die. Death is not the end, but a rebirth to something even more beautiful.about the photographer
