entry description
When the water of the rice terrace reflects the light of dawn along the slope of the mountain, the shriek of chicken echoes loudly, and the smell of coffee filled with sugar comes from nowhere. In the pink haze, the outlines of the waking mountains begin to appear vaguely. Balinciagao, a small village in the northern mountainous state of Kalinga, is the home of the Kalinga tribe, formerly known for their head-hunting ritual. Most tribal customs and rituals have long since been lost, and few young men carve tribal tattoos. Many young people go to gold mines in neighboring states or to work in urban areas, and most of the people living in the village are elderly people and children. The impact of technology and capitalist economies has cast a large shadow on the future of tribes and villages, and what is being lost is now visible in the village life.about the photographer
