entry description
These slime mould (Myxomycetes) fruiting bodies - neither plant nor fungi - spend most of their life cycle hidden from view. Their brief appearance, as fruiting bodies, is often overlooked due to their diminutive size. These images were all taken on decaying logs, in ancient, broad-leaved woodland in the UK. Each image is a focus stack of between 35 to 90 shots using natural light.
about the photographer
I live in the UK and have had a keen interest in photographing the natural world for many years. I enjoy landscapes and seascapes but my biggest passion is macro photography. I have been concentrating on ultra macro photography for the past two years, since discovering the fascinating world of slime moulds.back to gallery
