Extra Ordinary
This image is part of series “Extra-Ordinary” which shows common objects combined in a creative way. With a twist or pun. For example flowers or fruit becoming characters playing a role in a story.
The viewer is invited to think and wonder about what one is actually seeing, what it means and in the end complete the story with one’s own thoughts.
I realised that although I made pictures since my early youth I lacked some of the skills required to create the fine-art images that I envisioned. So I went ‘back to school’ and graduated as top of the class from the Fotovakschool, Rotterdam in 2015.
I try to create tantalising images that capture the viewer’s attention for much more than a quick glance. My images mostly show an incomplete story or an unexpected twist that invites the viewer to think and wonder about what she/he is actually seeing and what it means.
These images can take many months to create as it often requires quite some organisation and sometimes technical solutions need to be developed.
My experience as an engineer (to develop technical solutions) and as a manager (to realise a complex process) helps me.

about the photographer
In 2012, after working 21 years in industry ultimately as a director at Unilever, I quit to focus on my passion: photography.I realised that although I made pictures since my early youth I lacked some of the skills required to create the fine-art images that I envisioned. So I went ‘back to school’ and graduated as top of the class from the Fotovakschool, Rotterdam in 2015.
