SEA- What is there
lockdowns of the Corona-pandemic, while beaches weren't cleaned regularly as tourism was suspended.
Between the worship of nature and the destruction of nature, this photographic series raises questions about longing and fact.
With the camera, the artist creates an arc of tension between the ugly face of garbage polluting the sea, the images of virtual sea beauty created from it through artistic alienation and the reflections to nature that these for the viewer almost inevitably trigger.
The works open up to the viewer a depth of interpretation of the thematic standpoints, the threat situation and the social confrontation with them. You can feel fine irony instead of cynicism, sarcasm or even aggression, but also deep respect for nature - perhaps as a conciliatory perspective, but in any case as a sustainable legitimation for action.

entry description
The conceptual photographic project SEA-WHAT IS THERE was realized between June 2020 and May 2021. It shows seascapes constructed from plastic washed up on the beaches of Northern Germany during the twolockdowns of the Corona-pandemic, while beaches weren't cleaned regularly as tourism was suspended.
Between the worship of nature and the destruction of nature, this photographic series raises questions about longing and fact.

about the photographer
Lis Kortmann is a German photographer, who questions and discovers the world around her through the lens by looking beyond the visible. Always curious she is searching for the essence of man and things. After studying Photography in Scotland/UK and being awarded the program medal for outstanding achievements, she experienced art and photography by working in numerous jobs for example in editorial magazines, advertising agencies, museums and as an art teacher. 2020 she moved away from the jobs 'behind the scenes' to start showing her own work and adding her point of view to the actual debates.back to gallery
