Crossing Lives
In regards to the Bolivian situation, since Evo Morales became president for the first time in 2005, Bolivia has changed in many ways. Pluralism and different ethnities have been recognized, The poverty rate has decreased as well as analphabethism, the economy has grown by an annual average of 4.6 percent. On the other hand Morales’ open policy towards Western Investors plus the adoption of authoritarian policies takes him away from Native electorate. Since President Evo Morales was replaced by coupist Jeanine Añez in 2019 the rights of indigenous people have been denied, unemployment has increased and social and racial tensions have become complicated in an already difficult political crisis.
In her work, nothing is left to chance, and yet chance itself becomes a creative tool. The unexpected, the mistake, and the intervention of nature and matter—be it dust, fire, water, or light—are integral parts of a process that merges precision with intuition. Cerasomma layers images, overlaps visions, and constructs esoteric mosaics in which symbols, archetypes, and memories converge into a highly evocative and poetic aesthetic.
For the artist, photography is not mere documentation, but a mental space—a theater of imagination and possibility. Her works move between dream and hallucination, reality and fiction, questioning the boundaries between the human and the non-human, the spiritual and the profane. It is an exploration of identity, the unconscious, and collective memory, rooted in a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility.
Since 2020, she has received numerous international awards: she was a finalist at the Sony World Photography Awards in the Creative category, winner of American Photography for five consecutive years, and named “Talent of the Year” in 2021 by FreshEyes and GUP Magazine. Her works have been exhibited in leading galleries in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Milan, establishing her as one of the most compelling and visionary voices in contemporary fine art photography.

This project aims to represent Andean Countries, stuck in between the Past and Future. Like all my latest projects, I choose diptych as format to catch the Andean social and cultural dualism, a long time stratification of Society: indigenous v/s colonist, the rich v/s the poor, the native people v/s the conquerors, National Borders v/s Indigenous Territory. Native traditions and habits are radicated in National Countries such as the Western culture and influence. During the last centuries, both cultures have lived side by side, in a permanent clash among different identities, ethnities and cultures. Nicoletta Cerasomma is an Italian artist who stands out in the contemporary art scene for her refined originality and experimental approach that defies any conventional definition.
