Songlines 12
abstract aerial landscape photography in the Namib Desert and its surroundings.
Songlines is dedicated to the Etosha Pan in the north of Namibia.
The Etosha Pan covers 4760 square kilometers and is visible even from space.
Unlike the smaller tributary pans, the Etosha Pan does not have the characteristics of
a classic salt pan.
Only a few rain drops in combination with the unique light are enough to transform
this abstract landscape into a sea of different colors.
To be able to orientate oneself in this abstract landscape from the air one has to
create a mind map, linking key locations and sites in the form of traces and patterns.
A combination of long and tedious planning, intuition and a good portion of luck are
some of the factors needed, to be in the right place at the right time for the landscape
to share its secret treasures.
The result are silent Songlines in form of visual poems - a tribute of this incredible
and unique landscape.
he’s specialized in abstract photography since the early 80’ies.
He studied music at the jazz school lucerne switzerland and spanish and art at the university of havana cuba.
Since 1994 roland blum working as a journalist, photographer, producer and head of music at the national broadcast company radio liechtenstein.
Some of his essential works are presented in his online gallery www.rolandblum.com
