Mi Cuerpa
Constantly questioning my Identity, I explore the meaning of being and the restrictions or freedom our bodies and identities may give to us through a series of self portraits.
I grew up in a house filled with love, animals and history. A home where my existence was celebrated no matter how intense or strange they could think it was. I had the freedom to question who I am, without judgment nor expectations.
When I was a child, I yearned for the presence of magic in my reality, I found it in the process of creation and transformation. I would spend all day collecting “tiliches” as my mom would call them (trinkets) and transforming them into bags, jewelry, clothes and objects without any apparent purpose of existence that looked beautiful and filled my heart with joy and pride. This I interpreted as the manifestation of pure magic.
I found photography without looking for it when I was 15 and a friend told me, almost as a decree, that I would be a photographer, I chose to believe him. Through photography I discovered that what I called magic was also called art and I understood that in this life I would do everything possible to keep creating art.
I recognize myself through every laugh, embrace and tears I cry and I transform it into art. I have the urge to transform those abstract emotions into images I can share with others, because I truly and fully believe that expressing yourself and sharing to connect with others is one of the purest acts of love.
I am so incredibly fascinated by life it would be impossible for me not to try and save little pieces through art.
