entry description
Shortly after a full recovery from paralysis, I received grants to work with noted scientists. Privy to marvelous medical procedures affording superhuman capability, I became more interested in natural ability. While it is incredible to witness vanguard bionano technologies, it is more awe inspiring to experience exquisite talent and nature. We are becoming cyborgs. Eyesight has been restored by replacing cells from the limbus, the ring around the cornea, of people who have been blind for a lifetime. Beyond this miracle, technology has delivered vision exceeding limbus limits; ocular implant relaying digital signal. The lines between cosmetics, restoration, extraordinariness and unbridled decadence will blur. The ability to restore a burned arm or create an arm calibrated for performing Mozart will be equal. While I am amazed at this world of opportunity and find it increasingly fascinating, I equally fear natural ability is shrinking as fast as nature itself under the industrial cover. I have centered my attention on the dancer as iconic ambassador of human capability; we shoot on location in settings that fittingly match - natural landscape. My work, with equal parts celebration and suspicion, shines light on this edge of reality between possibility and extraordinary.about the photographer
