Sincerely Tendrara
Yzza was my partner and since the event, I have started a foundation named Sincerely Foundation with the purpose of continuing to display her artwork, while also raising funds to help people in the region of Tendrara, which is the location of the series that I am submitting here on her behalf: Sincerely, Tendrara.
To date, the series has been published across exhibitions and festivals in Germany, France and Morocco. At the recent Festival de photo MAP Toulouse, Yzza has been awarded the Revelation price (https://rencontres-facealamer.com/prix-revelation-face-a-la-mer/).
Yzza was focused on documenting the impact of climate change on communities, including her home country of Morocco as well as various other countries across Africa. For the future, I plan to continue the Sincerely series, working with young, female photographers to document the impact of climate change on various communities across the globe.
The photoseries Sincerely Tendrara tells the story of the Beni Guil tribe’s adaptation to extreme climate, desertification and water scarcity. Nomadic herders, known as Rouhal, are among Morocco’s most exposed communities to the impact of the climate crisis. Historically, they lived in a transhumance lifestyle following seasonal and predictable pastures. Today, as they struggle with the effects of increasing desertification and wind speeds, their historic livelihood is challenged. Their ancient nomad economies of agriculture and pastoring practices are disappearing, further threatening their centuries-old heritage, culture and traditions.
