title
Landscapes in black and white
Landscapes in black and white is a long project carried out along 16 years of travelling, from 2006 up today. The photographs were taken with an analog Canon from the 1970s, by using exclusively black and white films.
This project is an excursus of images through places, sometimes remote and inaccessible, that the author has strongly sought during her explorations.
The anthropomorphic element is deliberately excluded from almost every image, the focus is primarily on the solitary force of the beauty of the landscapes.
Landscapes in black and white tell us about that constant pursuit of a place, no matter if near or far away, that we wish to capture and keep live for ever in a photograph.
Light, matter and composition are the elements that characterize Flavia Cortonicchi's photographs in this work.Like a pictorial sketch she uses black and white, with a dry, precise, essential stroke to immortalize the raw beauty of incredible landscapes.
